A Press Conference presenting the 9th European Film Festival coming up in Lecce April 15 through 20 2008 will be held on at 11:30 on April 4 in the offices of the Region of Puglia in Via Barberini, Rome.

Important guests attending the festival include Nikita Mikhalkov and Michele Placido.

Actor and director Michele Placido will be featured in the Italian Films section, with a monograph and a selection of the most important films of his career, including Marco Bellocchio’s "Marcia trionfale", Salvatore Samperi’s "Ernesto", Damiano Damiani’s "Un Uomo in ginocchio", Francesco Rosi’s "Tre Fratelli", Damiano Damiani’s "Pizza Connection", Marco Risi’s "Mery per sempre" and Michele Placido’s "Un eroe borghese". There will also be a photographic exhibition organised in collaboration with Fondazione Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia’s Photo Gallery.

The Salento festival will also include a homage to Russian filmmaker and actor Nikita Mikhalkov with screening of a number of his most successful films, including "Oblomov", "Oci Ciornie", "An unfinished piece for player piano", "Urga" and "Burnt by the sun" as well as a convention organised by the National Union of Italian Film Critics. Mikhalkov will present his latest film, "12", soon to be released in Italy, at the Lecce event.

The Guarantors’ Committee includes Krzysztof Zanussi, Morando Morandini, Emidio Greco, Gianni Volpi and Gianni Massaro, while the Selection Committee includes Massimo Causo (of Centro Studi Cinematografici, the Film Studies Centre) and Cristina Soldano (Artistic Director).
