The cathedrals of Puglia

The first stop on the itinerary is Lucera, to visit the 14th century Cattedrale dell’Assunta renowned for its stunning frescoes. Next, set off for the 12th/13th century cathedral of Bitonto, one of the most representative and mature examples of Romanesque architecture in the area. The third stop is Ostuni, and its late-Romanesque cathedral, nestled in the baroque core of the city centre, among a number of beautiful palaces. Next, proceed towards Taranto, and the medieval cathedral in the heart of the old town, housing a series of frescoes painted in 1713 by Paolo de Matteis, and marble furnishings of the Neapolitan school.
