Tricase to Gallipoli by sea

Early in the morning one can enjoy the shelter of the small port of Tricase. Heading towards Leuca the coast is flanked by deep seabeds. Just a few miles along is the next landing, il ciolo, an ancient inlet used as a shelter for fishermen. Anchor here with a long chain and head to shore with the safety boat where this extremely narrow inlet reveals a beach of gleaming white sand. Nearby, another beautiful inlet hides a small azure lake embedded in the Grotta del Pozzo just a few metres from the water's edge. Continue the journey in the afternoon, looking towards the beacon of Capo di Leuca positioned at 140 metres above sea level. In this stretch of sea where the Adriatic meets the Ionic the coast is high and rocky and hides small, isolated bays. Then head towards Gallipoli. The low sandy beaches of San Giovanni and Torre Mozza lie along the coast as well as the lovely beaches of Ugento and Racale. Following these is Torre Pizzo with its enchanting Baia Verde. From here the island of Sant'Andrea near Gallipoli can be seen. A 54-metre high skyscraper dominates the landscape of Gallipoli; it can be clearly seen from the sea and stands next to the old city where the boat can be accommodated in one of five landings there.

Useful informations

The Capo di Leuca port, recently renovated and under new management, features floating docks and is a lively spot for sailboats in the summer; it can accommodate up to 700 craft so choose a quiet spot and keep moorings tight for the undertow.
While travelling to Gallipoli, be aware of the shallow seabeds between Torre Pali and Torre Vado and of the dangerous shallows of Ugento marked by a buoy and well-marked on the pilot book and nautical maps.
