The convent of San Benedetto is located in front of one of the most prestigious architectonic works of the whole area, namely the cathedral of Troia, dedicated to Assunta and located in Giovanni XIII square. The convent complex, built in the 16th century, today hosts the Museo Diocesano. Inside the convent it is possible to admire the triumph of baroque architecture, enriched by paintings, furniture, and sacred ornaments dating back to the 15th and 18th century. Still today the church contains the gratings that marked the boundary of the areas within which the nuns of S. Benedetto convent could participate in liturgical celebrations.
A Brief History:
Style:
The building, with very simple architectonic shapes, aisleless, contains three altars decorated in baroque style and two entrances. Today the most ancient of the two entrances is walled-up.
