The 16th-century Episcopal Seminary in Bari houses on its first floor the Diocesan Museum, a treasure trove that bears witness to the city's precious historical and cultural heritage through artistic and devotional artefacts. The tour is divided into five sections: the lapidarium, the art gallery, the treasury, sacred vestments and the precious Exultet rolls. The hall that accommodates the sculptural finds traces back the long architectural history of Bari's cathedral. The art gallery includes a series of 16th-18th-century artworks, among which the 13th-century icon of the Madonna degli Alemanni, the Madonna con Bambino (with Child) by Z.T., the altarpiece of the Risen Christ by Andrea Bordone and the Adoration of the Magi by Corrado Giaquinto. In the Treasury are showcased precious liturgical furniture like the Stauroteca, a reliquary golden cross, dating from the 12th century. The Exultet and Benedizionale halls represent the heart of the museum exhibit, as they accommodate 11th-century liturgy rolls, typical of the Easter liturgy popular in Benevento, widespread in southern Italy during Middle Ages.
