Right in the centre of the city of Foggia, the Civic Museum and Picture Gallery accommodates archaeological treasures, paintings and an ethnographic section.
In the first section, you can admire the precious collection of prehistoric artefacts from the neolithic village of Masseria Guadone, as well as plenty of Daunian pottery pieces belonging to a rich collection of grave goods and Roman sculptures unearthed in the town of Arpi. In the lapidarium, you find artefacts from tombs of knights and the Medusa hypogeum, as well as scenographic reconstructions.
The Art Gallery accommodates artworks by local artists such as Francesco Saverio Altamura, some paintings attributed to Francesco De Mura and to the Solimena school, alongside some others to be attributed to the Neapolitan school. In the ethnographic section, the leitmotiv is Gargano's 19th-century peasant culture and its urban evolution.
