Basketweaving is form of craftsmanship that owes its survival to a change in function and use in sectors like gifts and furnishing accessories. Basketweaving had extensive domestic applications in the past, with the production of bread baskets, harvesting baskets, and baskets for producing cheese and drying homemade pasta. The production of these goods has very ancient origins: it made good use of the raw materials that thrive in otherwise unpleasant areas like marshes and swamps. In Puglia, Acquarica del Capo is certainly the capital of basketweaving, even it there are other important centres, like San Severo, Cassano, Alberobello, and Trani.
