Lying inside the Gargano National Park, between Puglia's tableland and Gargano's promontory, the Lesina Lake is characterized by an expance speckled with a series of waterbodies and typical formations of brackish lagoons teeming with avifauna.
With its 22km in length and 2.4 km in width, it is the second largest lake in southern Italy.
Acquarotta and Schiapparo are the two canals via which the lagoon communicates with the Adriatic sea, separated by it by a 16-km sand bar, the Bosco Isola. The Lasina lake provides the backdrop for the spectacular aerial manoeuvres of cormorants, little egrets, western marsh harriers, black-winged stilts, slender-billed gulls and common kingfishers.
