Lovely, verdant scenery and luxuriant vegetation, giving a feeling of calm and relaxed wellbeing: this is the setting of Lake Pescara, beloved by excursionists and fishermen. From the top you look down on the surrounding plain, with a gentle slope towards the sea, and on a clear day you can see the Gulf of Manfredonia and the Tremiti islands. Pescara Lake, covering about 40,000 m2, is 902 m. above sea level and has a maximum depth of 6 metres. It has no natural effluents and is fed by springs underneath it and by streams formed after rainfall and by melting snow. The lake is rich in aquatic vegetation and during the summer its surface appears to be evenly covered by the green leaves of floating pondweed and, here and there, the white flowers of water crowfoot. It is also an excellent ecosystem for the life and reproduction of fish species like carp, barbel and bleak. On the whole, the lake is a unique, rare and immensely valuable biotype.
