Palude La Vela

The Wwf Oasis “Palude La Vela”, almost 7 hectares large, is a protected area overlooking the Mar Piccolo, about 7 kilometres away from Taranto, between the promontory called “Il Fronte” and the far end of the natural channel Capo D’Ayala.

The marsh, surrounded by the pine forest of Fucarino, keeps several birds species, both sedentary and migratory ones, among which herons, little egrets, common sandpipers, flamingos and ospreys, as well as the rare black-winged stilt.

In this habitat, mostly with marshes, reeds, Mediterranean scrub and large ponds, live several plants species, among which the nice wild orchids and several plants which live in brackish environments.
