Beyond the coastal road between Brindisi and Apani, the river widens into an area covered with a large stand of common reed, sometimes interspersed with quite large water expanses.
A reed-bed and a thick maquis that covers high walls of sandstone can be seen along the river by moving upstream. The surrounding zone is composed of cropland, uncultivated land and grassland.
