The Nature Reserve Boschi di Santa Teresa e dei Lucci keeps the last part of the well preserved forest of cork oaks, which is really important from a biogeographical point of view, being rare amid the cork oaks along the Adriatic coast of Italy.
The luxuriant and scented understory has typical species of the Mediterranean scrub, which cannot be find in other places in Salento, such as the rare erica pugliese (Apulian ether) and strawberry trees.
The forests, surrounded by cultivated fields, are a safe refuge for several animal species, among which porcupines, hares, squirrels and dormice, while the blue sky is crossed by blackbirds, woodpeckers, blackcaps and robin redbreasts.
