Parco Nazionale del Gargano (Adda Editore)

Gargano National Park covers an area of more than 120,000 hectares - almost a region within the region - housing countless habitats that include a cross section of the Mediterranean basin’s diverse natural scenery. The park contains several protected areas such as the Marine Reserve of the Tremiti Islands which is one of a kind thanks to the extraordinary beauty of its seabeds and natural caves, and the morphology of the Archipelago Islands. The inland areas of the Gargano Promontory contain the last traces of the Umbra Forest, an extensive habitat in prehistoric times and extremely typical of Puglia's inland areas.

The park comprises 18 municipalities and many tourist attractions such as the religious sites of San Giovanni Rotondo and San Marco in Lamis, the Swabian castle of Monte Sant’Angelo, the castle of Manfredonia and the coastal towns of Peschici and Vieste.

There are many ways in which to explore the park thanks to the activities run by the visitor centres in Manfredonia and Lesina and the 40 footpaths and cycle tracks. During these excursions, visitors can discover the impressive range of botanical species present in the park, admire the majestic beeches, Turkey-oaks and holly trees and catch a glimpse of deer, foxes and hundreds of other species of animals and birds found here. The variability of the habitats, interspersed with expanses of cultivated fields, olive groves and vinyards, guarantees an ever-changing landscape and a path rich in unforgettable views and panoramas.
