The tour starts along Otranto’s northern coastline, a marvellous landscape of small beaches and coves dotted by stacks and caves. You will then hike through the Alimini lakes wetland, formed by the Grande and Fontanelle lakes and home to numerous migrating bird species. You will continue in Otranto’s historic city centre, with a visit to the beautiful Annunziata Cathedral, which hosts Europe’s largest mosaic floor, with a tree of life that takes up the whole nave. You will also visit the small church of Saint Peter, a clear expression of Salento’s byzantine art. The Castle, which was expanded after the Turkish invasion of 1480, looks out over the sea with its majestic round towers.
