A tour of history that starts in Maglie, with a visit to the Palaeontology Museum, with paleontological and prehistoric archaeology exhibits on the Pleistocene epoch in the Otranto area, which allows visitors to retrace Salento’s ancient history. Inside the museum you will also be able to see a multimedia show on the history of Grotta dei Cervi (Cave of the Deers) in Porto Badisco, which dates back to over four thousand years ago and hosts inscriptions from the Neolithic age, engraved in the guano and red ochre. Next stop, Muro Leccese, an ancient town of Messapic origin, where you walk through the historic centre and marvel at the beautiful small byzantine Church of Santa Marina, with a series of frescoes devoted to Saint Nicholas. You will also visit the Borgo Terra Museum inside Palazzo del Principe, which traces the town’s history through to the Middle Ages, with panels, archaeological artefacts and a film.
