Serracapriola is a small municipality located in the National Gargano Park near Chieuti and rather close to the Lesina Lake. The first documentary evidence of its history dates back to 1038 and regards the donation of the village by Emperor Conrad to the Abbey of S. Sofia in Benevento. In the subsequent centuries it was a feud rules by a sequence of noble families including the Sforza, the Guevara, the D’Avalos, and eventually the Maresca, who got hold of the feud in 1742 and are still today the owners of a significant portion of land.
