Chieuti was founded near the borders of the region on the ruins of the Italic town of Cliternia (of which we have archaeological evidence today). The urban settlement is located on a rock spur overlooking the Adriatic Sea, between the Saccione torrent and the Fortore river. All the beaches extend along this higher part of the coastline. Marina di Chieuti is the seaside town district, which has been awarded the Blue Flag (a certification of clean sea waters in Italy) for many years now.
