A building of great architectural momentum, stressed by the slanting angle of the slopes. Three portals framed by three arches on false pillars open up on the façade. The central portal is decorated with plant, human and animal motifs. A double-lancet window and a large rose window, probably dating back to Renaissance, open up on the upper section. The interior is divided into one nave and two aisles, with differently-shaped pillars. The three tall apses look like those of he Cathedral of Trani. The uncompleted false women’s gallery is high up.
A Brief History:
It began to be built in the late XII century and was completed one century later, in Swabian times.
Main Works:
Extremely interesting are the many sculptural works on the cornices of the façade, most of which date to the Angevin period.
Style:
A building made at a time of transition between the local Romanesque and the Swabian Gothic style.
