The original church exhibits baroque features dating from the XVIII century but its origins lie in a simple, elegant 1571 building of which it preserves some traces in the back section, in the outer cornice and in the single-lancet windows of the transept. The baroque façade, enhanced by a massive bronze portal, resumes the internal division consisting of a nave, covered by a big barrel vault, and two aisles. As well as that of the patron saint, Saint Vito the Martyr, special devotion is reserved to the icon of the Mother of God Nicopeia, the generator of Victories, consecrated on 25 March 1995 by Card. Marco Ce, the Patriarch of Venice. On 30 December 1998, His Holiness John Paul II, with an apostolic breve, proclaimed the Church of Saint Mary of the Victory a Papal Basilica.
