Built towards the middle of the nineteenth century, this church, with a nave and two aisles, stands where another place of prayer already existed. It went on fire twice, the first time in 1882 and the second in 1957. The grotto of our Lady of Lourdes is reproduced inside it, because of a vow by Dr. Egidio Delliponti, miraculously cured after a pilgrimage to Lourdes. In 1947 it was declared a Marian Sanctuary. Pilgrimages are made to the grotto and the anniversary is celebrated on 11th February every year. The Church contains papier-mâché statues made by masters of Lecce papier-mâché: a statue of Santa Lucia by L. Guachi, founder of the only industrial plant; statues of Saints Cosma and Damiano. St. Sacquegna, a Pontifical supplier, a statue of St. Joseph with soft clinging drapery, by Sir Raffaele Caretta, and a statue of Saint Anthony and Saint Santa Rita by the Gallucci e figli firm. The Campanile dates back to 1980, thanks to the work of the late lamented Parish Priest Father Franco Limongelli and other willing citizens. In 2005, thanks also to the efforts of the Parish Priest Father Damasi, the Church was carefully restored to its original splendour.
