The castle extends over 1,200 sq metres, 900 of which occupied by a huge wall structure. Built in the XVI Century over an existing structure, today it preserves a round tower, a lanceolate rampart, the Knight tower (torre del Cavaliere) and some stretches of wall curtains. A wide, rectangular internal court once kept the handmade and agricultural products traded through the Mediterranean area. On the western side, near the coastside, there was the castellan hall, the only room having an independent access. According to historical records, the castle was already in a state of ruin back in 1780. After a two-century decay, during the last two decades three different architectural renovation interventions still continuing today have been undertaken.
